Purpose of the Catalogue
The PPORO Public Domain Literature Library aims to make 92 fiction works from Project Gutenberg accessible to readers interested in historical texts. This catalogue organizes titles into four thematic categories and provides editorial context to help readers navigate the collection.
Scope and Selection
All works are drawn from the public domain and were originally published before 1928. The selection Catalogue maintenance uses source records and bibliographic context. No works have been altered; the catalogue provides only metadata and editorial commentary.
Source Attribution
Every book record identifies Project Gutenberg as the source. The catalogue does not claim copyright over the texts and directs users to Project Gutenberg for authoritative versions.
Bibliographic Records
Records include title, author, publisher, keywords, target-reader description, and a catalogue note. Keywords are taken from the source metadata. The catalogue notes are prepared as supplementary catalogue material and is based solely on the text's content.
Category Assignment
Categories are thematic and intended as navigation aids. Books may fit multiple themes; the assignment reflects dominant characteristics. Each category guide explains the grouping rationale and notes limitations.
Editorial Reading Context
The catalogue notes and guides are informed by editorial reading of excerpts and full texts, but no claim is made that every book has been read in its entirety. Commentary Catalogue maintenance uses source records and bibliographic context.
Edition Facts and Text Measurements
No edition facts (e.g., word counts, publication dates) are provided unless present in the source metadata. The catalogue does not verify variations between editions.
Recommendations and Related Works
Each category guide recommends three titles. Recommendations are based on representativeness, diversity of authors, and the availability of interesting catalogue notes. No external reviews or statistics are used.
